History of Liquid Strength ®

“What is Liquid Strength® ?”

Our “Fitness” is defined by 5 things:

1) Body Composition (lean body mass vs. body fat)

2) Muscle Strength

3) Muscle Endurance

4) Cardiovascular Conditioning

5) Flexibility

In order to address all 5 issues, you would have to take a spin class or run, lift weights/do Pilates  and  take a yoga or stretch class.  I created Liquid Strength because I wanted to get all the benefits of all three things at once.

Liquid Strength® is a barefoot discipline that trains your upper body, lower body and core all at once. Using large fluid movement cycles we challenge the body at constantly changing angles (not the artificial linear way of lifting weights) and do heart rate intervals (best way to crank up your metabolism) while we truly connect with our bodies and find the “calm” even in the hardest physical challenge.  You don’t have to be coordinated or super fit. You just have to have an open mind and a desire to change your body and your life.

History of liquid strength I had just given birth to twins, was recovering from horrible hip (sciatic pain) when 9-11 forced my family to move 3 times in one year. My marriage was falling apart and I felt like I was too. I needed something to calm my mind and  strengthen and challenge me from the inside out. I needed something that did not exist.

That was the seed that grew in my imagination. I reached into my past and isolated the most vital elements of yoga, dance, judo, skiing, all the sports I had done.

Seeking to expand my vocabulary, I reached into history, sampling martial arts, tribal ritual, the physical dynamics of work and daily struggles.

I fused the real world challenges and the challenges of the imagination. I left no room for thought outside of what action my body was doing.

I found that when I was pushing one part of my body to point of tremor, I could be completely at peace and I would not even FEEL the work.

For one hour my mind was in my body. My body was in my imagination. My mind, body and soul were one. I didn’t realize that I was doing a form of the transcendental meditation. When it was over, I was breathless, drenched and sublimely relaxed and happy. It was that moment I knew my life would never be the same.”
